2010 INSHP Chinese Membership Annual Meeting Held in Hangzhou

On April 22, 2010, the 2010 INSHP Chinese Membership Annual Meeting was held in Hangzhou near the beautiful West Lake. The annual meeting is the first held in China after the former China Information Network of Rural Electrification incorporated into INSHP, receiving strong support from the Ministry of Water Resources and the member units. In total over 150 small hydropower industry representatives from 20 provinces attended the meeting. Mr. Tian Zhongxing, Director of Rural Hydro Power and Electrification Development Bureau of Chinese Ministry of Water Resources, also the Chair of the INSHP Coordinating Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Mr. Chen Dayong, Deputy Director of Rural Hydro Power and Electrification Development Bureau, presided over the meeting.

Ms. Zhang Tongsheng, Secretary-General of the former China Information Network of Rural Electrification, delivered a speech and summed up the work and achievements of the Information Network since its establishment. She hoped that INSHP can play a better role in the world with incorporation of the information network.

Prof. Liu Heng, Director General of INSHP, reported on the main work of INSHP and outlined the prospects for INSHP after incorporation of the China Information Network of Rural Electrification. He further presented the work objectives for the next phase. He said INSHP would continue to expand international cooperation and activities, meanwhile organising more domestic conferences and regulate domestic bases to strengthen domestic cooperation and scientific research, to continue the development of CDM projects and publications. He stressed that INSHP would strengthen its own capacity-building to provide better service. Prof. Liu Deyou, Deputy Director of INSHP, announced the name list of Chinese members, including the newly joined members. Representatives from Beijing, Zhejiang, Hunan, Jilin and Gansu provinces made statements on behalf of members.

Mr. Tian Zhongxing, Director of Rural Hydro Power and Electrification Development Bureau of Chinese Ministry of Water Resources, also Chair of the INSHP Coordinating Committee, delivered a speech. He pointed out the country is increasingly powerful, and after several generations of tireless efforts, China has today's progress and achievements in water resources and hydropower. Mr. Tian hoped that INSHP would provide quality services for its members, in policy support, information exchange, technological advances, personnel training and international exchanges. He also hoped that all members can support development of domestic and international markets, continue to grow their own power and improve rural economic development, and make greater contribution to energy conservation in order to continue fulfilling their social responsibilities.

Currently, INSHP has more than 380 members registered worldwide, of which more than 120 are Chinese members.
