"2017 Seminar on Small Hydropower Development and Management for Central and East Europe Countries" Held at ICSHP, Hangzhou, 29 Nov – 19 Dec 2017

Between the 29th of November and the 19th of December took place the” 2017 Seminar on Small Hydropower Development and Management for Central and East Europe Countries”, Sponsored by Ministry of Commerce, China, organised by  International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP), National Research Institute for Rural Electrification and Ministry or Water Resources of People’s Republic of China.

In the seminar, however, participated representatives not only from five European countries: Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland and Ukraine;but also from two African countries: Kenya and South Sudan; as well as two Asian countries: Mongolia and Pakistan. In total,the seminar gathered 25 participants representing governments, independent associations, research institutions and private sector.
During the first and the last week of the seminar participants attended lectures in Hangzhou. The topics of lectures were related mostly to hydro power, nevertheless, the participants also had an opportunity to learn and discuss other branches of renewable energy sources, like wind or solar.

On the second week the participants were takenfor a field visit to Jinhua, Shanghai, Yichang and Nanjing. During the field visit, they had a chance to experience some bits and pieces of the rich Chinese culture, both ancient and modern architecture, as well asdiverse cuisine. In Yichang they had a rare opportunity to see the Three Gorges Dam project from inside. Moreover, during the field trip they visited several factories and hydro power plants.

On the last day of the seminar, participants were officially given individual training certificates as well as opportunity of presenting reports of their countries to numerous investors and representatives of major Chinese companies. Also on the last day of the seminar, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ICSHP and Albania Energy Association, aiming at enhancing cooperation between these two in renewable energies, including small hydro power development in areas related to, among others, policies, technologies and management.
