On July 9, Mr. Philippe Scholtes, Managing Director of Programme Development and Technical Cooperation (PTC) of UNIDO visited ICSHP to discuss the further cooperation between UNIDO and ICSHP. DG of ICSHP Madam Cheng Xialei, Senior Advisor Prof. Liu Heng and division of multilateral development attended the discussion.
First, division chief Ms. Hu introduced the “scaling-up SHP development in selected countries”, which is funded by China’s MOFCOM and implemented by UNIDO and ICSHP. The project is aiming to conduct site selection, feasibility studies and capacity building in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan and Peru to contribute to the inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID). Mr. Schotles hoped that through this project, we can promote the further cooperation and finally construct one or two SHP plants in targeted countries. Now the project was just launched in this May and is in its preparation stage for the further implementation.
Then, both sides focused on the GEF-6 Upgrading of China SHP Capacity Project that was just approved by GEF Council last month. Mr. Scholtes mentioned this project was UNIDO’s first climate change project with GEF. He hoped through this project we can establish a new mode for further projects to copy. Director Cheng introduced the goals of China’s original capacity upgrading project during the 13th five-year plan and the new policies on GEF grant management by China’s MOF that would be benefit for the implementation of the GEF-6 project.
During the discussion, ICSHP also introduced the World SHP Development Report
