Opening ceremony for 'Small Hydropower Technology Training Workshop for Southern Asia and South East Asia Developing Countries' held in Hangzhou

Entrusted by Bureau of International Cooperation of Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) and the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) Rural Electrification Research Institute the 'Small Hydropower Technology Training Workshop for Southern Asia and South East Asia Developing Countries' was launched 15 September 2015. Workshop participants included thirty-two officials and technical staff in the hydropower and energy field from twelve countries, including: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Division Chief Feng Zhaoliang from Ministry of Science and Technology expressed China’s commitment to providing other developing countries with technological assistance. Based on a principle of mutual benefits and protection of intellectual property rights he supports the transfer of appropriate Chinese technologies so as to improve technology levels and economic development in developing countries. 

Division Chief Wu Nongdi from Ministry of Water Resources shared that China has accumulated abundant experience and accomplishments in small hydropower development and construction. China seeks to strengthen cooperation and share knowledge and experiences in this area with other developing countries, particularly those in Asia. Through joint efforts can spread small hydropower internationally in order to eradicate poverty and realize the UN Millennium Development Goals.  

ICSHP Deputy Director Liu Deyou emphasized the purpose of the training workshop to provide a platform for developing countries in South Asia and South East Asia to raise questions and communicate on issues relevant to small hydropower. The platform will facilitate the sharing of newest technologies and management experience. 

Deputy Chief Mr. Vilaysone Bouphalad, Department of Science and Innovation of Ministry of Science and Technology of Laos on behalf of all participants expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for its support.
